The corn plant is said to have been domesticated in the Americas approximately 10,000 years ago. In more recent centuries, the timeline highlights two decades with important milestones: in the 1840s there is an English record at one archeological site in Mexico of ears of popcorn maize, and in the 1880s, the inventor of modern popcorn was attributed to Charles Cretor of Chicago.
