When the waiter brought the fries back to the kitchen, Crum took it upon himself to show the unsatisfied customer just how thin a fry could be! He sliced the potato so thin, he created the potato chip! To his surprise, the patron loved it. This tale has given Crum credit and the potato chip inventor, but there was no mention of this contribution to society in his obituary.
