Homemade Barbecue Sauce
With Open Acres fresh boneless skinless chicken breast on sale this week for just $1.99 a pound or pork baby back ribs just $2.99 a pound, we’re not going to tell you what you should barbecue…but we did find an awesome (and simple) recipe for homemade barbecue sauce from The Food Network. This one comes from Pat and Gina Neely who travel the countryside looking for authentic, down-home recipes.
Neely’s BBQ Sauce
Here’s what you’ll need:
• 2 cups ketchup
• 1 cup water
• 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
• 5 tablespoons light brown sugar
• 5 tablespoons sugar
• 1/2 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper
• 1/2 tablespoon onion powder
• 1/2 tablespoon ground mustard
• 1 tablespoon lemon juice
• 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
All it takes next is to combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan and boil. Reduce heat to simmer. Cook uncovered, stirring frequently, for 1 hour 15 minutes.
It’s a so-simple and no-frills creation that will complement whatever you’re putting on the grill this weekend!
