Free Oscar Mayer Lunchmeat (and a little history of the Wienermobile)

February 24, 2019

In the 1930s, the automotive industry was still relatively young.  Many looked the same as function was more important than style.   But that didn’t stop Carl G. Mayer, nephew of founder Oscar F. Mayer, from taking the ordinary horseless carriage and turn it into a brilliant advertising vehicle (literally).  The famous Oscar Mayer Wienermobile was constructed in Chicago in 1936, and was an irresistible hit.   Unfortunately, the original Wienermobile would have a short life.  Once World War II began, fuel rationing and bans on unnecessary travel meant a rolling hot dog bun would have to sit idle.  In 1952, the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile was back and more popular than ever!    The Wienermobile’s prime purpose was to help display the Oscar Mayer “Yellow Band.”  It signified the first ever “branded meat” and was a symbol of Oscar Mayer’s commitment to quality meats.  Today, Oscar Mayer continues to bring you wholesome lunchmeat with no artificial ingredients, no nitrates, and no antibiotics.  Just the way Oscar wanted it.  Get reacquainted with delicious Oscar Mayer lunchmeat this week, by picking up a FREE 9-ounce package with a $17 purchase at Fresh Madison Market.
