Minute Maid began from a company that was working on ways to preserve food to be sent to the troops in World War II.  Being able to turn fresh fruit into powder form was revolutionary at the time and, as military history buffs will tell you, an army travels on its stomach.  This research began in 1945, and before a drop of juice (or can of powder) could be shipped, the war ended and “The National Research Corporation” became known to us all as Minute Maid.  But this isn’t a story about powder.  This is a story about fresh juice.  At Fresh Madison Market, we put the word “fresh” right there

The Packers, supper clubs, and towns named Oconomowoc are things that every true Wisconsinite understands completely.  But every once in a while, we let a little of our great state sneak out and get shared with the rest of the country.  That’s the inspired story of Ralph and Alice Stayer who opened a butcher shop in a little town just outside of Sheboygan.  They named the shop after their home community, Johnsonville and did what came naturally.  They made sausage from a 19th-century family recipe that made its way from Austria.  It quickly became known as the sausage with the “big taste,”

To make St. Louis style barbecue sauce, we turn to this 5-star recipe from Genius Kitchen

Have you ever met anyone who doesn’t love Oreos?  Neither have we.  That’s why this week can’t wait to see the excitement of people just like you heading home with a free package of Oreos with a $15 grocery purchase.  But have you ever stopped to wonder about where that name came from?  Nobody knows for sure, but one theory says that the two “Os” at the beginning and the end represent the chocolate cookie part.  The “re” in the middle…is the middle.  Others have suggested that the original packaging was gold in color, and you know “or” is French for “gold.”  Still a bit of a stretch?  Yeah…

Watermelon is probably associated with summer more than just about any other fruit. It originated in West Africa, but by the 7th century it was in India, and a few hundred years later it was popular in China. In the 1500s, Spanish settlers were growing it in Florida, and pretty soon it found its way as far north as Massachusetts. Growing from a vine in the summertime makes a watermelon a seasonal favorite. Cutting a watermelon can be an unforgiving job, but a post on Pinterest has made it easier than ever. Watermelon Sticks make this fantastic fruit easy to handle and beautiful to display.
